New Perth Wildcats’ recruit David Okwera is set to workout with four NBA teams prior to the 2023 Draft.

The seven-foot forward will train with the Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs and Indiana Pacers, his agent Solomon Dech posted on Instagram stories.

Okwera, who played the last two seasons with Melbourne United, will train with projected number-one overall draft pick Victor Wembanyama and New Zealand Breaker Rayan Rupert prior to the draft.

‘D-Sav’ played 27 games last season for United, starting 12 of them. He averaged 4.2 points and 3.4 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game.

He entered the draft to test the waters, with the likelihood of withdrawing his name to keep his 2024 draft eligibility.

Okwera and his agency are open-minded to things changing, but at this time he will likely withdraw from the 2023 draft. This would give him another season to develop in the NBL.

The 20-year-old signed with the Wildcats in early April, returning home to Western Australia after years of developing his game in Melbourne.

He was selected to be a part of the NBA Global Academy and had close to 20 division one NCAA offers in the United States, but turned them down to go professional with Melbourne United.

The draft prospect has represented Australia throughout both junior and senior levels. Most recently winning the Asian Cup with the Boomers in 2022.

Okwera said that he was excited to comeback to Perth and be with his family.

“It feels amazing to get the opportunity to play in front of my family and to be around them, I’m really looking forward to it,” he said.

“JR (John Rillie) and the rest of the coaching staff are really invested in me developing into the player I want to be, and hopefully I can bring some excitement to the fans.”
